Sociable Crafting

Television!!

On Saturday, Jen was interviewed by a company called MediaTrust for inclusion in a show called “My Brilliant Moment”.  This will be aired on the Community Channel (Freeview HD 53) and will also be available to watch on catch-up tv services such as BBC iPlayer. It was a really exciting experience to be able to talk about Craftable, its aims and goals and its wonderful members, in a show that regularly reaches around half a million viewers.

Watch this space – more details will be forthcoming about when the show will be aired, and there should also be a direct link from this page.

News for February

In the past few months, thanks to SAVS (www.savs-southend.org) and their unstinting help and support, Craftable has come a long way.  We have a new home, regular members, and a lot of interest from potential new members.

Today Jen met with a few organisations who offer financial support and funding to local community groups and charities, and Craftable now has its first funding bid in place.  Obviously, with so many worthwhile causes running in Southend and the surrounding area, there is competition for the available funding, so the next few weeks will be a little bit nerve-wracking while we await the results.  There will be another “Meet the Funder” event towards the end of March so fingers crossed!

New Home

We are delighted (and sad!) to announce that Craftable has a new venue, and so meeting times and things have also changed.

We now meet at SAVS (Southend Association of Voluntary Services) on a Tuesday afternoon from 1.30 till 4.30.  The full address is SAVS, 29-31 Alexandra Street, Southend on Sea, SS1 1BW.

We’re very sad to be leaving The Vibe, which gave us a home for 2 years, and would like to say a huge thank you to Pauline, Tina, Lisa and all the staff  who gave us such a warm welcome and so much support during our early days.

We would also like to say a public thank you to the lovely Chris and Naomi for giving us a temporary home for the last 2 months in the Plaza Centre Cafe.

So if you’re free on a Tuesday afternoon and need somewhere to come to be with other people in a relaxed, friendly environment, contact Jen on 07941 133551 or email craftable@outlook.com

Temporary change of plans

Hello all

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to use our usual meeting place for the next 2 weeks, so we have made alternative arrangements.  We are meeting instead in the cafe at the Plaza Centre in Southchurch Road from 12 noon until 2 pm.  It’s very informal, we’ll just be chatting while we knit or crochet, and refreshments will be available to buy.

easyfundraising

Just a seasonal reminder about easyfundraising… If you order gifts or shopping online, please consider visiting sites via the easyfundraising website at www.easyfundraising.org.uk

It is supported by a large number of online retailers who will donate a percentage to Craftable for each qualifying purchase. It doesn’t cost you a penny, but raises vital funds for this very worthwhile cause.

Some of us don’t need to imagine.  We live t11880601_1022065767825718_7851005277366767131_nhis life every single day.

That’s why we craft.  It promotes our feelings of self-worth, it makes us feel good, and we have something that we made, a tangible something that wouldn’t exist without our input.

There’s only one thing better than crafting when you live with an invisible condition.  That one thing is crafting with friends.

Southend Market

On Thursday, Craftable has the SAVS Market Stall outside Footlocker in Southend High Street.  Please come along and say hello – I’ll be very happy to see you!  We will have craft items for sale, plus lots of information about what we do.  If you have a neighbour, friend or relative who you think would enjoy an afternoon of crafting once a week, pick up a leaflet with contact details 🙂

Relaunch, here we come!!!

Well, we’ve had so much interest shown in Craftable since November that it’s almost time to relaunch.  In preparation, there is now a funding campaign on Indiegogo hoping to raise £2000 by 3rd May 2015, and another to go in by post shortly.

So watch this space – news is imminent!
